Katie won’t gamble – but her newsletter will be in your mailbox tomorrow

Real talk: There’s a scene in the movie “Eat Pray Love” where Elizabeth Gilbert, portrayed by Julia Roberts, says: “There’s a wonderful old Italian joke about a poor man who goes to church every day and prays before the statue of a great saint, begging, ‘Dear saint — please, please, please give me the grace to win the lottery.’ This lament goes on for months. Finally, the exasperated statue comes to life, looks down at the begging man, and says in weary disgust, ‘My son-please, please, please buy a ticket.’”

Florida Lottery Ticket pulptown local news photo credit Emiliano VittoriosiI often wonder why I don’t have the luck of a lottery winner, but then I remember I never actually buy the ticket. (There’s definitely a lesson in here somewhere.)

With that in mind, recently three Central Floridians just won nearly $1 million in scratch-offs. The MegaMillions prize was at $865 million last night — the second-highest in its history — and tonight’s Powerball is at $730 million. And apparently, these are Central Florida’s luckiest, most winningest stores.

In case you’re wondering, I have no intention of buying a ticket (my pops always told me never to gamble). So, therefore, you can count on me to be your friendly neighborhood Pulptown editor again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day and the day after that… 😉
