🍽 GIFTS FOR YOUR FRIENDS WITH AN ELEVATED PALETTE

So a few weeks ago, we released part one of our local gift guides, aimed at your crafty friends, and on Friday, we shared part two for your more adventurous friends. Part three of our gift guide was created with our flourishing food scene in mind.

Airbnb culinary experiences. Airbnb is about more than just lodging these days, and Orlandoans from a variety of culinary backgrounds are using the platform to share their expertise with residents and visitors alike. Some of the more popular food-related activities include a Walking Food Tour of Mills50, the Walking Brunch Tour in Audobon Garden Park District, a beer tasting in Orlando’s Barley Row, Chef Nite Experience with Rashaad and Mount Dora Taste of our Town Tours.

Speaking of food tours, we suggest looking into Orlando Food Tours, Orlando Foodie Tours, Mosquito County Tours, Sanford Food Tours and Plant Street Food Tours.

Group activities. Introduce your person to seven strangers around a dinner table by giving them a gift certificate to The Dinner Party Project. Or take them on a 12-person pedaling tour of Downtown Sanford’s watering holes with a ride on the LimoCycle Tours. Because the best gifts are the ones you get to share, right?

You think you’re fancy, huh? There’s no epicurean experience in Orlando like Kadence, a 10-course sushi experience sure to blow their socks off or at least their top button. If sushi isn’t their thing, try a private dinner at Chef’s Table at Edgewater or reserving the back chef’s table at Prato.

Take a class. Truffles & Trifles in College Park is an Orlando staple for cooking classes and the Edible Education Experience allows you to help our local community while also learning about local fare. But if you’d prefer an in-home experience, check out personal chef Maria Ruiz-Castanada of Sobremesa. There are at least 98 more cooking classes happening in the area that we know of, thanks to our friends at Orlando Date Night Guide.

Something sweet. Orlandoans really know what they’re doing in the bakery department. Nothing says I love you like Gideon’s Bakehouse classic chocolate chip cookie, voted best in Florida, best in the United States and best on planet earth. And just for the holidays, they’re making a triple chocolate salted Andes mint cookie that looks absurdly delicious.

Give the gift of juice. Let’s face it, they’re going to need it. Orlando has some great juice spots including Grounding Roots, New Moon Market, Juiced, Raw Juicing and Detox, and Juice Bar. Get them a juice cleanse, a gift card, or make ‘em a juice basket. Vegan hotspot Sanctum Cafe makes some pretty fierce juice and smoothies, too.

Stay caffeinated. Get your coffee-loving friends the gift of unlimited coffee consumption by buying them a gift card or coffee coin to any of our great coffee shops: Cafe Linger, Lineage, Credo, Craft + Common, Deeply Coffee, Easy Luck, Gratitude Coffee, CFS Coffee, or Foxtail Coffee Co.

WHAT'S GOING DOWN IN PULPTOWN?

Brightline sets a date. The private mass-transit company says Feb. 1 is the day it will give a 30-day notice to its contractor to start construction on the $2.1-billion rail line between Orlando and West Palm Beach. The route is expected to open in late 2020 or early 2021. (Orlando Business Journal)

Dunking with Disney. The new NBA Experience attraction at Disney Springs is set to open next summer, offering several interactive exhibits for basketball’s biggest fans. Visitors will be able to launch basketballs on oversized slingshots, practice slam dunks on an adjustable basket, and compete against other fans in WNBA and NBA trivia contests. (Orlando Sentinel)

Still need plans for NYE? Start off your night on the town with a special prix-fixe dinner at American Kitchen & Bar, or keep things low-key with live music and cheap drinks at Bahama Breeze. This roundup includes restaurant options from fast-casual to high-end, and everything in between. (Orlando Sentinel)

No ‘Hamilton’ tickets, no problem. Miss out on scoring tickets to see “Hamilton” at Dr. Phillips Center? There are plenty of other engaging musical productions scheduled around Orlando in the coming months. From “The Music Man” to “Fiddler on the Roof,” these are the shows that will have you singing along in your seat. (WKMG)

A for effort. Q: What do you get when you ask Orlando’s mayor, police chief, and other notable local figures to sing a Christmas carol together? A: A fun compilation video that’s definitely festive, but slightly off-key. (Orlando Sentinel)

🤫 WHAT NOT TO TALK ABOUT DURING YOUR HOLIDAY DINNER

On Tuesday, we asked you how to make holiday dinner awkward in four words. We received some creative responses. Reader Thomas Rohe said he could ruin his family dinner by exclaiming “Karl’s boil finally burst” and Vanessa Raya Loomie said one surefire way to make things go south is asking “When’s Trump getting indicted?”

So now that you know what NOT to talk about, we wish you luck on what TO discuss. And feel free to keep us posted on your holiday conversations by sending us an email post-Christmas dinner.

‘Til tomorrow, Orlando,
— Pulptown
