😍 We want to hear your love stories, Orlando

Tell us how you found love in Orlando.

SHARE YOUR LOVE STORY WITH US 💌

Look, we know love is hard. And we’re not just talking about romantic love. Love is anytime we give a little bit of ourselves to someone else — a friend, a family member, someone we care about.

A famous Rollins College alum, Fred Rogers, said it best: “You know, I think everybody longs to be loved, and longs to know that he or she is lovable. And consequently, the greatest thing we can do is to help somebody know they’re loved and capable of loving.”

That’s why this month we’re celebrating your love stories.

Inspired by The New York Times’ Tiny Love Stories, we want to hear your 100 word love stories about how you’ve experienced love while living in Orlando – how you met your significant other while standing in line for a Publix sub, stories of missed connections from happy hour at The Guesthouse, that one time you found love on Wall Street, a complaint about how hard it is to find love in this city because everyone knows everyone … you get the idea.

Send us a love story of 100 words or less, whether it’s triumphant or tragic, ambiguous or anti-climatic. It should be true, and it should make us sigh with happiness or sympathy.

And if we choose to feature your story in Pulptown, we may even have our resident doodler Haley Weaver draw an illustration to accompany it.

Send us your best love story here.

WHAT'S GOING DOWN IN PULPTOWN?

Common Core out the door? Gov. Ron DeSantis followed up on a campaign promise this week by saying he would sign an executive order to end Common Core standards in Florida. The benchmarks, which cover math and language arts in grades K-12, have been controversial among Republican lawmakers, and DeSantis said he’s asked his education commissioner to come up with a way for the state to adopt its own standards for these subjects. Going public. You can’t ride a Virgin Train in Orlando yet, but you can buy stock in the company. Virgin Trains USA Inc. — formerly known as Brightline — is releasing 28 million shares of stock valued at more than $500 million total. The service currently operates in South Florida and plans to expand to Orlando and Tampa sometime before the end of the year. (Fox 35)

Homegrown talent. First-year UCF head coach Josh Heupel is making waves at Jones High School, where six players — three of them freshmen — have received scholarship offers to play for the Knights. The Jones head coach says he expects more offers to come. (Orlando Sentinel)

Now hiring. A few days before raising its base minimum pay to $12 an hour, Universal Orlando announced it will hire 2,500 workers for everything from attractions to aquatics. The park will unveil some major new upgrades this year, including the new Harry Potter roller coaster and its first Value category hotel. (Orlando Weekly)

Beer here. The Central Florida Brewer’s Guild Fest returns to Sanford on Feb. 23, featuring 40 different breweries from all over the region. Attendance will be capped at 600 this year, so grab tickets fast if you plan on checking it out. (Orlando Weekly)

These watch parties are super. Looking for somewhere to watch the big game this weekend? From breweries to pizza joints to sports bars, Orlando’s got you covered. Cheers for wings, football and beer? (Orlando Sentinel)

PSST REAL QUICK! 🤫

Last week, we asked what questions you had about Downtown Orlando and we promised to answer at least one of them. So far, Matt G. asked where to go for a first date and where to find N.Y. style pizza. Jay asked about the history of I-4 and Adly wants to know what’s going down in the empty lot on Pine Street and Orange Avenue. What do you want to know? Tell us here. Voting ends Monday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m.

Secondly, don’t forget to watch Andrew Zimmern eat his words about Orlando on The Zimmern List tomorrow at 10 a.m.. You’ll recognize quite a few of Orlando’s best gems, including East End Market (Domu and Farm & Haus), Black Rooster Taqueria and Orlando Meats.

Enjoy your weekend, Orlando,

— Pulptown
