Where to Volunteer in Orlando

In honor of National Volunteer Month (April) and National Volunteer Week (April 7 – 13), here are a few ways you can give back around Orlando this spring and summer, starting next weekend.

Next weekend

Meet at Orlando City Hall to celebrate Earth Day with a work day cleaning the city. (Downtown)

Join the Orlando City Soccer Foundation for Earth Day at the stadium to help clean up the Parramore neighborhood. (Parramore)

Later this month

Volunteer to help set up at this year’s Orlando March for Babies benefiting March of Dimes, a non-profit that works to expand programs that help moms and babies receive the best, most optimal care. (Baldwin Park)

Or sign up with the city of Orlando for a community clean-up of the Parramore neighborhood just in time for Earth Day. (Parramore)

Stand up for victims of sexual assault by wearing denim on Denim Day, April 24. (Orlando)

Save the kitties by attending the Pints and Purrs fundraiser benefitting Celery City Cat Cafe at Celery City Craft. (Sanford)

Through May 12, volunteer for your local Red Cross chapter to help install free smoke alarms around Central Florida (Red Cross)

Ongoing

Support the young women in our community by volunteering at Pace Center for Girls. They’re always looking for extra hands to tutor, sort donations, work in the Pace boutique or help teachers spruce up their classrooms. (Winter Park)

Help your furry four-legged friends. Pulptown reader Faith Holden told us about Pet Rescue by Judy’s Dog-4-a-Day program. The next time you’re out and about in Sanford, volunteer to take dogs out on long walks, a hike, or just out to play.  (Sanford)

Volunteer at Clean the World, helping to repackage soap from participating hotels and sending them to countries who lack access to clean hygiene. (Southport)

Join Big Brother Big Sisters and help mentor children in the area who are in need of a role model. (Orlando)
