Sanford homeowners open their yards to neighbors, porches to musicians

THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Sanford

THE PLACESanford Porchfest is an annual event where homeowners donate their porches for one day for a mini music festival. Neighbors walk between 10 homes which host different genres of bands.

FUN FACTThe first Porchfest was in 2007 in Ithaca, NY — since then it has expanded to hundreds of cities including several in Florida like St. Augustine, Jacksonville, and Sarasota.

QUOTABLE“We just hope everyone can kinda just break outside of the rush of our typical days,” said Shelly Allen, the co-founder of the Porchfest. “It’s a day to let all that go and leave it behind.”

CHECK IT OUT: Sanford Porchfest happens every February. The event is free. To donate your porch just fill out a form on their website.
