Sanford dessert spot makes wonder out of marshmallows

THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Sanford

THE PLACE: Wondermade is a sweet Sanford dessert spot specializing in artisanal marshmallows, eccentrically flavored ice creams and scrumptious s’mores. Nathan and Jenn Clark are co-owners and run the business together while raising their six kids. They say they’ve made millions of marshmallows since starting production in 2012 and ship throughout the world. The store name comes a quote found in the book of Psalms. Indecisive about desserts? Wondermade offers a  “Mallow of the Month” subscription service that features some of their most unique treats.

FUN FACT: Wondermade has produced some fascinating marshmallow flavors through the years including sriracha, bourbon and 24 karat edible gold. Nathan says Watermelon is the only flavor they made that wasn’t great. Customers also love their cornbread ice cream, he said.

QUOTABLE: “We want you to walk in the door and feel like you’ve stepped into a place inviting you into the future of what some of these desserts and treats can be like from really a wonder and whimzy perspective,” Nathan Clark said.

CHECK IT OUT: Tour the kitchen and make your own marshmallow treat with a partner during their monthly date night event for $20, or bring the kids to a family workshop for $10. They’re open Monday-Thursday 11am-9pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-10pm and Sunday 12pm-9pm. They’ll open a new location soon in downtown Orlando’s North Quarter. The exact day hasn’t been announced yet.
