What Orlando is talking about

We’ve been talking about scooters for months now, but the heat’s especially been on since Gov. DeSantis signed a bill last month legalizing electric scooters in Florida.

While Tampa experiments with scooter pilot programs, the city of Orlando has said for months that it’s not interested in exploring the idea until we work out the kinks of our current bike share programs.

Nonetheless, some residents are still pushing for them while others say absolutely not, citing havoc and safety issues scooters have caused more progressive transportation cities like Austin.

Either way, according to state law, motorized scooters are now allowed on roads and in bike lanes. The latest debate is on what this means for Central Florida’s recreational trails and whether they should be allowed, regardless of what state law says.

Luckily, there’s a loophole allowing local governments the ability to approve or deny motorized vehicles from sidewalks and trails.

Alas, the scooter war rages on.

In other news…

The semifinal is planned for early August and is against Atlanta United, a club they’ve yet to defeat. Not sure what all these cups mean? NotthatFLman breaks it down on Reddit. (The Cup, Reddit)

What’s up in Mills 50

Each month, we shine a spotlight on a different neighborhood in and around the Greater Orlando area. This month, we’re looking at the Mills 50 neighborhood.

We kicked off the series with a video on the “new” Wally’s then featured the neighborhood’s best barbecue Pig Floyds Urban Barbakoa in our second video. In the meantime, we asked you what you wanted to know about Mills 50 and you all rallied around its Asian food scene, specifically its history but even more than that, you wanted to know the answer to Ashley Z’s question.

Ashley asked, “What are the secret things to order at the Asian restaurants? The things to you’re afraid to order but regulars know it’s THE best?”

Well, that’s going to take some time to answer — anyone down for a Mills 50 food crawl next week because we’re going to need some help? Hit us up and let us know, email [email protected], subject line: Let’s eat!
