🤔 Guess where Florida ranks on the worst drivers list

Dahlia’s Flower Truck is reading our minds with this caption as we’ve got a question for you later this week regarding your Orlando summer bucket list. “Hello, summer. 👋 What’s on your summer bucket list? 👇” Thanks for the tag, @dahliasflowertruck. What Orlando is talking about

Last November, 65.4 percent of Floridians voted in favor of Amendment 4 to restore voting rights to former felons so long as they had not been convicted of murder or a felony sexual offense.

Under Amendment 4, roughly 1.5 million people in Florida would now be allowed to vote, the largest expansion of voting rights in the Sunshine State since the voting age was lowered to 18 in 1971.

But on Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 7066, which went into effect yesterday, requiring convicted felons to complete “all terms of a sentence” before they can vote — including payment of all fines, fees and victim restitution.

Democrats and civil-rights activists flexed back with a lawsuit, claiming that this was an attempt to disenfranchise voters and essentially amounted to a poll tax.

The Sun Sentinel did an excellent job of breaking down DeSantis’ decision-making process, party sides, and public opinion. Meanwhile, according to a Quinnipiac University Poll, Florida voters are split on the issue, with 45 percent having voted in favor of requiring payment of fines, and 47 percent against it.

In other news…

A self-driving 18-wheeler successfully traveled 9.4 miles on the Florida Turnpike last month, merging and changing lanes and entering a rest area. This test run coincided with Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signing of a bill expanding the testing of autonomous vehicles in Florida. (Orlando Weekly)

Florida just ranked fourth from the bottom of states with the worst drivers, tying with Texas and Nevada, according to a recent report from financial website Smart Asset. They found that the Sunshine State has the lowest rate of insured drivers, eighth-lowest rate of DUIs, and 11th-highest in web searches of “traffic ticket” and “speeding ticket”. (Orlando Sentinel)

Kissimmee ranked No. 1 and Orlando No. 5 of the best and most affordable places to live in Florida in a recent report by MarketWatch. The report claims affordable housing and “places where you can find community and a sense of purpose” as its leading criteria. (MarketWatch)

Calling all morning people

Since launching Pulptown in March of last year, we’ve seen many of you Pulptownies out and about on a run before work, high-fived you in early morning yoga classes and chatted with you over fresh cups of joe. Now we want to know — what are your morning habits before reading or while reading Pulptown?

We also thought we’d share our morning rituals with you when we first start stirring:

Open all the blinds in the house and walk my pup —Katie, Director

Drink a big glass of water first thing —Kelsey, Engagement Producer

Practice 10 minutes of meditation with the Headspace app -—Kayla, Video Producer

… and of course, we read Pulptown — just like you.

You can support your fave morning habit, err… local newsletter, for less than your monthly coffee routine. Join our member community today for just $8 a month.

Reply with your morning habit, subject line: my morning ritual and we’ll share ’em in the newsletter later this week.

Let’s get together

This is your bi-weekly reminder, reminding you that we can share one morning ritual together in two weeks. You wake up with us in your inbox, let’s wake up together IRL over a cup o’ joe and Orlandough doughnuts, shall we?

We are excited to invite you to our first ever morning Monthly Meet-Up. Join us Tuesday, July 16 between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. for a morning edition of our meetup series at The Heavy. We’ll have coffee, doughnuts, and good conversations to kick off the day.

Let us know you’re coming here!
