🤔 Did you know: 7-Eleven now delivers beer?

Here’s your big ôm moment, Orlando, brought to you by local photographer, Steven Madow.

What Orlando is talking about

After days of deliberation, the Florida House and Senate negotiators decided late Tuesday afternoon on a $90 billion (give or take) spending plan for the fiscal year starting July 1. The final version came mid-day Wednesday and because the budget requires a 72-hour review time, this now means that the legislative session will not be able to wrap up as planned on Friday. Legislators are hoping to tie all loose ends by Saturday mid-day.

Things to note:

  • The state is increasing funding for mental health services in schools, an increase of $5.8 million, albeit a shortfall from the Senate’s request of $31 million, it’s more than the House’s proposed zero dollar increase.
  • While area universities did receive funding, University of Central Florida did not.
  • Of the $90 billion budget proposed, $682 million has been reserved for environmental needs such as the Everglades restoration, money set aside for the Florida Forever program, and $31 million reserved for state parks.

Let’s get together

In other news…

The bill to arm teachers passed through both the Florida Senate and the House and is making its way to Gov. DeSantis’ desk. As a reminder, if signed (which is likely), it will then be up to the school system to offer the option to teachers, who will still then have to undergo 144 hours worth of training.
