💐 12 Valentine's Day ideas, minus the Valentine

VALENTINE'S DAY: PARTY OF ONE 💘

Take yourself on a date. When was the last time you experienced a good art exhibit? Orlando Museum of Art is a great place to start. Another idea? Attend Nude Nite Orlando at Central Florida Fairgrounds. Or head to The Venue to “Celebrate the V” with Blue Star and her crew.

Grab your gal pals and head to a Galentine’s event. Wednesday is the infamous 7th Annual Galentine’s event at Red Light Red Light. There’s also the Galentine’s event at The Cloak & Blaster, which has been around for four years and counting. More Galentine’s suggestions can be found on Orlando Date Night Guide.

Do whatever the F you want to do, including events that are aimed at couples. Even though Valentine’s Dinner at Enzian is geared towards lovers, we support you taking a friend to watch “Love Actually,” because who doesn’t love that movie? Also, if you’re a fan of wine and cheese, head to the Tasting Room. Or check out this concert at Leu Gardens. Just don’t forget your bottle of red.

Get active. Grab a friend and go on a Valentine kayak tour or head to Camping World Stadium for Corkcicle’s Yoga on the Field event, which ends in lots of wine and networking.

Feel like going rogue? Hammered Lamb is kicking off their monthly parking lot parties with the Anti-Valentine Party. They’re encouraging you to drown your sorrows in Jack … and tattoos.

EXONERATED, BUT NOT COMPENSATED

It’s been three months since Clemente Aguirre-Jarquin became the 28th person to be exonerated from Florida’s death row. But the matter is far from settled.

Under Florida law, Aguirre-Jarquin could qualify for $50,000 in compensation for every year he was wrongly imprisoned for his alleged role in a 2004 double-homicide in Altamonte Springs. That would entitle Aguirre-Jarquin, who now lives in Tampa in a community for exonerated people, to a total of $700,000.

But Seminole-Brevard State Attorney Phil Archer is trying to stop the payout from happening. He’s filed a court motion to challenge Aguirre-Jarquin’s request, saying it was made two years too late and claiming that it was witness credibility  — not a lack of evidence — that caused his office to drop the charges last fall.

A circuit court judge will make the next call regarding compensation for Aguirre-Jarquin, who is also seeking asylum to avoid being deported back to his native Honduras.

WE ASKED, YOU ANSWERED 🥴

On Friday, we asked you what tips you’d give to a friend who was just starting out dating in Orlando. The biggest takeaway is that our readers are funny, and Thomas Leonard might have been the most clever when he said, “There’s nowhere comfortable to sit at (The Imperial at) Washburn (Imports).”

As always, thanks for your feedback, Orlando. You keep us on our toes.

See you tomorrow,
