🍊You're not a true Orlandoan...

Meet our new editorial fellow, Olivia. She loves coffee and juice... aka grape juice... aka wine.

Everyone say, "Hi Olivia!" 👋

Now we’d like to introduce to our newest teammate: our editorial fellow, Olivia Blase! We asked Olivia a few questions so you could get to know her and her love of Orlando.

  • Favorite neighborhood: “I’d have to pick my own – Holden Heights!”
  • Favorite thing to do indoors or outdoors: “Going to special events at Lake Eola”
  • Ideal night on the town: “Black Rooster and Guesthouse for dinner, then dancing my heart out at the Patio
  • Best doughnuts: “Orlandough!”
  • Best coffee:Credo‘s brewed Honduran is bae”
  • Best juice: “Does wine count?”
  • Best off-the-beaten-path spot: “Foodies Cafe
  • Finish the sentence: You’re not a true Orlandoan unless….  you’ve driven in the bus lane on Magnolia St.
  • What you love most about Orlando: The city pride, especially during soccer games.
  • What you want to learn more about: Our new Puerto Rican friends.

You might see Olivia at your next event or, she might reach out to you for a story, or ask you to take her to your favorite coffee spot. Everyone say, “Welcome Olivia!”Have a question for Olivia? Or for me, Katie? Hit reply and send ‘em on over.

WHAT'S GOING DOWN IN PULPTOWN?

The friendly skies. An Orlando man whose heart stopped while flying flight from Detroit to Orlando in March recently reunited with the passengers who helped bring him back to life. Jerry Drouillard had just finished his last round of treatment for prostate cancer and was taking a nap on the way back to Orlando but instead, suffered a massive heart attack. Luckily, nearby passengers recognized the situation and jumped into action quickly. Watch their reunion with your own eyes here. (Click Orlando)

Hooray Hooray for Main Street USA! As Orlando’s Main Street District approaches its ten year anniversary, small businesses around town are rejoicing. According to the Main Street program, “the districts have generated $1.14 billion in private and public investments, more than 1,000 new business openings, and the creation of more than 6,000 part and full-time jobs”. (MyNews13)

We said ConGRADulations (sung in our best Post Malone voice?). Local Oak Ridge High School senior and quarterback, Darvion “Pinky” Bailey walked across the stage to accept his diploma on Wednesday. While to some that seems rather ordinary,  the extraordinary part of it is that he wasn’t expected to walk again until at least August after suffering life-threatening injuries in a horrific car crash back in March. Darvion graduated with a 4.0 GPA, a football scholarship to Middle Georgia State University, and one heck of a swag walk. (WESH)

She’s the conductor now. Sunrail isn’t just expanding its new commuter rail lines– it’s also for the first time promoting women engineers. A husband of one of the three women they’re bringing aboard said that while women in the industry are far and few between, they often bring a more solid aptitude than men. His wife, Christine Davis, said, “I try to get my head out there (when driving) so they can see I’m a woman operating the train. It’s something to be proud of.” (Orlando Sentinel)

Viva la Mexico. With the growing traffic to Mexico City, Interjet Airlines is now offering a nonstop flight from Orlando. Round trip tickets are going for $190. Get it while it’s hot (literally).  You’ve got until August 5. (Click Orlando)

Believe it or not. Ripley’s Odd is Art exhibit, a collection of some of Ripley’s Entertainment unusual creations, is on display through June 15 at the City Arts Factory downtown. The exhibit will potentially go “on the road,” but for now, you can see it Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Sun Sentinel)
