On Sunday, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will celebrate its 20th anniversary. We put together a list of 20 fast hacks (from our own experiences as annual pass holders) to help you make the most out of a day trip, to live like a tourist in your own backyard.

(1) If you Uber or Lyft, you get dropped off at the very front of Animal Kingdom (saving you $22 for parking + time spent walking).
(2) Get there EARLY. If you want to avoid the lines of Pandora, it’s essential that you arrive at least an hour (or more) before park opening. Prepare for a mad dash.
(3) Flight of Passage is EVERYTHING everyone says it is.
(4) With Pandora so popular, this means Expedition Everest has little to no wait in the mornings!
(5) It also means that you MIGHT be able to snag a pic of the Tree of Life with only you and your party in it, but no promises!
(6) If you want to see the animals moving on the safari, visit on a cloudy day or in the mornings, when it’s cooler and they’ve just been fed.
(7) The new Sa’Tuli Canteen in Pandora is a must-eat.
(8) Speaking of eating, as of last year, you can now order ahead for most quick-service dining options. (You’ll want to do that).
(9) If you want a sit down meal, in our humble opinions, Yak and Yeti is still where it’s at.
(10) Don’t miss the Festival of the Lion King. Kids love it, adults do too.
(11) When in doubt, trek it out. Animal Kingdom is home to both Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail and the Maharajah Jungle Trek (home to some newish tiger cubs).
(12) Similar to the old saying “stop and smell the roses”, in Asia, you should stop and watch the monkeys.
(13) Primeval Whirl is much more bearable after a beer – and more fun too (speaking from experience).
(14) Have kids and loads of time between fast passes? Take them to the nearest Wilderness Explorer stand.
(15) No kids and need a break? Escape the crowds and the heat by visiting Nomad Lounge. They have a wine flight that could cure all of your ailments (except maybe your wallet).
(16) The cleanest and usually most efficient bathrooms are between Pandora and Lion King.
(17) There are apps that help you gauge crowd levels. Download them.
(18) Buy Disney gift cards ahead of time, then use them to budget your kids’ spending.
(19) Don’t sleep on the little falafel stand in Asia near Yak and Yeti or the skewers in Harambe Market in Africa (both personal favorites)
(20) Nothing, and we mean nothing, beats a ride down Kali River Rapids in the Florida heat.

One last thing: a few times a year, Disney offers Florida residents the Discover Disney tickets, three parks for $159. If you can swing it, it’s totally worth it.

H&R Balk… For all of you last-minute taxpayers, don’t worry, all of that hustling you did yesterday to get everything submitted, that hour that you waited on hold to talk to someone at H&R Block (just me?!), it was all for nothing — okay, not nothing because hey, you got it done – but due to a glitch in the IRS website, everyone’s been given a 1-day extension. Give them the world, give them the whole world…On Monday, Orlando lost Henri Landwirth, the founder and creator of Give Kids the World, a nonprofit storybook resort for kids with life-threatening illnesses and their families to enjoy weeklong, cost-free vacations. Landwirth was a Holocaust survivor, later a US Army veteran, then a hotel manager before starting GKTW. He was all of these things and more. “I never had any control over my life as a child,” he would write in later years. “I think that is what inspired me to do what I’m doing today — to thank you for this life I have.” (Orlando Sentinel)

Dog-gone amendments… On Monday, the Constitution Revision Commission met and approved eight of 11 amendments (actually 23 that were bundled into 11). Of the eight passed amendments to be added to the ballot in November, a ban on greyhound racing, poised to phase out dog racing by 2020. The amendment was approved 27-10. (Tampa Bay Times)

Keep Orlando green… Some Seminole and Orange County residents are resting easy this week after a bill overturning the Home Rule died in legislature. The bill would have approved development along the Econlockhatchee River, something residents on the outskirts of said counties are fighting to protect. This wasn’t the first time the Urban/Rural Boundary, a line that curves around Oviedo, separating urban services to the west and rural lifestyle to the east, was challenged. Stack the sidelines… Former two-time NBA All-Star and current coach of the Raptor’s G League affiliate, Jerry Stackhouse, is rumored to be interviewing with the Orlando Magic for the now-empty head coach position. Stackhouse has long been considered the frontrunner for the Magic because of his ties to Jeff Weltman, the Magic’s president of basketball operations. (Weltman was the general manager of the Raptors when Stackhouse was an assistant coach). Both Weltman and General Manager John Hammond were hired last year. Their first-year focus? To evaluate the operations department. Just yesterday, the Magic dismissed both their athletic-training and strength-training staffs. (Orlando Pinstriped Post, Orlando Sentinel)

If you’ve been following the new season of American Idol, you’d possibly recognize contestant Alyssa Raghu, local Lake Nona sophomore, as her face has been all over local news as of late. While Raghu had advanced to the top 24, she unfortunately was not chosen for the top 14. We know this isn’t the end for Raghu, at 16, she has a whole world ahead of her.

To infinity and beyond! (Well at least until tomorrow morning).
