Meet a Member: Kelly Lamano

Each week we shine a spotlight on our members in an effort to further connect our community and support each others’ passion projects. Today, we’re introducing you to Kelly Lamano.

Where in town might people run into you? Most likely at Mead Botanical Gardens, crouching down to get the perfect shot of the birds and flowers, or singing open mic at the Melrose Center.

What made you decide to become a Pulptown Member? I love that Pulptown delivers both news and features in a fresh way that’s easy to digest! The publication is my go-to source for daily updates and things to do during the week.

What local business do you think deserves a shoutout (and why)? South Street & Co. deserves a huge shoutout! The team sends an awesome newsletter with marketing tips for small businesses, educating the community both online and in person. I first heard of them on the Orlando Lady Boss podcast.

What’s a local event you went to recently that you loved? I really loved Orlando’s TogetherDigital launch party, supporting women in tech. The national founder, Alaina Shearer, led a panel discussion with women who either own their own business (such as Erica Jacobs of Pixadactyl) or lead in digital marketing (such as Charisse Winter of the International Speedway Corporation). Since going to the event, I’ve found this to be one of the most welcoming groups, giving me resources to grow inside and outside of my job.

What’s a recent story you’ve read about Orlando that you wish more people cared about (and why)? I recently learned about the Orlando Cat Cafe in Clermont. They partnered with a sustainable coffee company next door, so it’s a part-cafe part-cat play area. The cafe socializes SPCA rescue cats in a safe environment until they’re adopted.

What are you celebrating in your life right now? I’m celebrating my photography work being displayed in two venues — the Industrious Orlando art wall and the Winter Garden SoBo Art Gallery! This was the first year I submitted my work for consideration, and it gave me more confidence to share my photography as art. I specialize in portrait and business photography, but I love exploring parks and gardens to take pictures of the beauty around us.

What’s something you’re working on that you could use help with? I’m the co-founder and leader of SPARK Orlando, a chapter of the national nonprofit Freelancers Union. We really need more volunteers to keep the events running!
