🍔 Biting into O-town’s Burger Week

Plus, where to find a Pickle Rick Negroni, Shaq is back and meat made from milk.

Guess who’s back, Wednesday.

Shaq is back, back again, and this time with another chicken restaurant in Central Florida. Shaquille O’Neal’s Big Chicken chain serves up the usual tenders and crispy chicken sandwiches, plus ice cream shakes and Cheez-It crusted mac n’ cheese.

The chain is set to open several locations across the state, including in our beloved Orlando. We’ll see if Shaq’s chicken spot can bring the magic.

Let’s take a bite out of Burger Week, shall we? | Tag either #pulptown or @pulptown to be featured. (📸:@shannon_wolfgang)

Kicking off O-Town Burger week

Burger Week is here, and it’s juicy. From today through Sept. 28, $7 will get you a burger from any of the 30+ Central Florida eateries participating so far. Plus, Digital Burger Passports will be available so you can scan QR codes at participating restaurants and earn points for prizes. (Orlando Weekly)

🐠 Want a unique option that spares a cow? PoKeKai is introducing its first-ever “sushi burger.” Yep, you’ll only spend $7 on a “burger” built with crispy-rice tuna or salmon, Kai salad, avocado, spicy mayo, eel sauce, and crazy cilantro. Throw in a side order of poke tots while you’re there.

👠 You know it. You love it. It’s Hamburger Mary’s. Outside of brunch hours, you can settle in with a $7 Philly burger, a half-pounder topped with provolone, grilled onions, peppers, and cajun mayo on brioche. You might want to add a seasonally-appropriate “Pumpkin Patch Cocktail” to that order.

🍊Don’t be a jerk. Eat local. One of the burgers on offer at Alex’s Fresh Kitchen is a Caribbean jerk burger that’ll spice up your Burger Week with mango salsa, a roasted poblano pepper, pepperjack, and jerk sauce aioli. They also have gluten-free options.

Chew on this, Orlando

🍸Is your Negroni feeling pickleless? The Neighbors is slinging its own special cocktail in honor of Negroni Week. The “I’m Pickle Rick!” is made up of whiskey, pickle juice, campari, and Carpono Antica. (The Neighbors)

🎁 Surprise! More fast food pops up in Orlando. Restaurant chain Jack in the Box is coming to Florida, with plans to expand into our local market. (WFTV)

🇨🇦 Southern eatery Se7en Bites is going international. Canadians will get a virtual taste of Orlando goodness when they tune into Food Network Canada’s “Big Bucket Food List.” The show will feature Se7en Bites in its 13th episode of the season. (Se7en Bites)

🏁Rounding out this day with a Faiyaz Kara round-up. Tampa-based Asian bakery Sweet Buns is coming to East Colonial Drive in Colonial Town North next year, and it’s bringing along a Hong Kong-style cafĂŠ that will serve up milk tea and Hong Kong-style French toast. Sourdough Bread House is back with Turkish breakfast and baked goods, this time at 5761 U.S. Highway 17-92 in Casselberry. Santa Rosa Mexican Grill has moved to the corner of 17-92 and 436, and Ta’Chingon Mexican Kitchen has taken over the space at 1341 Howell Branch Road in Winter Park. The former NY Bagel Deli & Pizza space at 11757 S. Orange Blossom Trail is now home to Beirut Bakery & Deli. Brother Jimmy’s is bringing Carolina-style barbeque to ICON Park. Next month, look for national chain Persis Indian Grill to set up shop in the Park Lane Plaza on International Parkway in Lake Mary. Finally, opening date TBD, but Top Protein, a start-up protein technology company that manufactures meat from ruminant milk, will open a showcase restaurant at 2607 Edgewater Drive in College Park.
